1st of the five game Test series begins in couple of hours from now here today and talk of the surface and role of spinners is still being debated. England has experienced a long spell of summer this season which is quite unusual. However, England has already announced a day before their playing XI which includes spinner Rashid Khan in place of Moeen Khan who has had a rough patch during limited over series earlier.
The way Indian wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal troubled English batsmen in limited over series, its being anticipated that Team India captain Virat Kohli would like take advantage of ‘spin fear’ of England batsmen and opt for playing at least two spinners.
However, England surprised Indian think tank by announcing their playing XI yesterday which includes Rashid Khan. Does it mean pitch won’t be of any great help for spinners? Well, Joe Root would certainly make India feel on these lines. Is this a some kind of ploy to discourage India from playing their ace spinners?
This is the same wicket where English pacers took 19 wickets out of 20 in 2015 against Australia.
