Maharashtra in the popular culture is limited to Mumbai and maximum ranges up to Pune but Maharashtra has a lot more to offer. This is one of the richest states in India which ranges from mountain, plateaus, sea, historical monuments and lots of flora and fauna. So, why not explore Maharashtra and its rich culture by planning a visit?
Here are some of the under-rated places of Maharashtra you must visit:
1. Kaas Plateau
Kaas Plateau is located in the Western Ghat Sahyadri range of Maharastra and this place is known for its variety in wild flowers. During the time of August-September, every year, the flowers starts to bloom and the entire place fills up with flowers everywhere. Also, you can find the Kaas lake on the south of the plateau which is an add-on for visitors.
2. Alibaug
This is a little coastal town which is just 110 kms from Mumbai and it can be your quick getaway from the exhausting crowd. Situated in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, Alibaug has sandy beaches, unpolluted and clean air and forts and temples to keep you entertained.
3. Malshej ghat
Malshej Ghat is located in the Western Ghats and falls in between Pune and Mumbai. This can be your trip with your friend where you just want a casual layback trip for picturesque views and great amount of flora and fauna.
4. Matheran
Matheran is a hill station in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. This is the smallest hill station in India and it gives you the best of Western Ghats range. Since it is around 800 m above the sea level, Matheran means "forest on the forehead" which is literally the case. It is the most eco-sensitive region and it has been declared so by the Ministry of Environment.
5. Rajgad Fort
Rajgad fort stands at the height of 4600 feet, it is Shivaji’s capital for more than 25 years. If you live for adventurous trips, then Rajgad will give you ample areas for trekking. In case you plan to trek upto the Rajgad fort, in that case, it will be a better idea to camp there overnight and have a good time uphill.
