Acclaimed poet Gopaldas Neeraj breathed his last on Thursday. He was suffering from lung infection and was admitted in AIIMS, New Delhi for the treatment. He was aged 93.
The renowned poet won many critical acclaims and awards in his career including Padma Shri in 1991 and Padma Bhushan in 2007 respectively.
Shahshank Prabhakar, son of Neeraj, tells the news wires that his father was facing serious illness since the new year, he was shifted from Agra to New Delhi on Wednesday when he developed respiratory issues.
The body is said to be taken to Agra where people would gather to pay the legendary poet their last respects and after that the body will be taken to Aligarh where the last rites will take place.
His real name was Gopaldas Saxens but he wrote poems under the disguised name of ‘Neeraj’. His writings are so profusely powerful that it can fill your soul with peace the moment you gawk at his work.
He ventured into films too and made a name for himself. He is known for writing lyrics of popular songs like 'Likhe Jo Khat Tujhe' from the film 'Kanyadaan', Shokhiyo Mein Ghola Jai from 'Prem Pujari', Bas Yahi Apradh Main Har Baar Karta Hoon from 'Pehchan', Ae Bhai Zara Dekh Ke Chalo from Mera Naam Joker and others.
People are shocked to hear about his demise but all we can hope is that he will be in a better place now. He will always be remembered for his work that is timeless.
