People usually think they are not wasting food, however, on weekends; most of them are stuck in a situation where they have to decide what to throw away and what to keep in the fridge. And the problem arises when your heart aches while dumping food. But, there are indeed plenty of simple ways to reduce food waste. It can be anything from those stale chapattis to leftovers in the kitchen. Wasted food in India mainly comprises one of the largest solid wastes.
The reason why we should reduce food waste is that there are millions of people around the country who are working hard for a meal. According to India Times report, “Indians are wasting 67 millions tones of food every year”. Indians waste as much food as the whole of United Kingdom consumes – a statistic that may not be so much indicative of our love of surfeit, as it is of our population. One fine example in India is garbage bins and landfills which are usually full of wasted food. The 'Swach Bharat Abhiyan Initiative' has surely made Indians aware of the fact that we are ignorant when it comes to throwing wastes irresponsibly. However, we should now focus more importantly on two things- throwing the waste at the right place as well as stop wasting food.
