GS Laxmi ambition is to officiate as a referee in the women world cup final and her appointment as a referee at ICC International women brings her one step closer to her dream. She will be eligible to officiate for her services with an immediate effect.

"To be selected in the international panel by the ICC is a huge honour for me as it opens up new avenues. I have had a long career as a cricketer in India and also as a Match Referee. I hope to put my experience both as a player and as a match official to good use on the international circuit," Laxmi said

Who is GS Laxmi?

Born on 23rd May 1968 in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh Laxmi received her education in the steel city of Jamshedpur. She wasn’t good in academics and scored poorly in her class 10th board exams which denied her admission at the Jamshedpur Women's College. She thus got admission under the sports quota.

Let’s look at her cricket journey so far:

Laxmi received the call for playing under ‘Rest of India’ team on her marriage day but her family background and situations didn't allow her to play cricket. However, after a few years, she restarted her cricketing career. An outswing bowler, Laxmi has never played for team India but she has been one of the successful players under domestic circuit. She played a crucial role in Railway cricket, winning the inter-Railways title for South Indian Railways for the first time. She has successfully played for teams like Andhra Women, Bihar Women, East Zone Women, India Women, Railways (India) Women, South Zone Women.

She retired in 2004 and shifted to coaching and was in-charge of South railways since then. She has earlier also worked as a referee in domestic cricket when BCCI for the very first time introduced the female referees in 2008. She has also overseen 3 domestic ODI matches and twenty matches.
