The hype about Marvel's "Avengers: Endgame" is all over the place with Marvel fans and critics waiting for the sequel of 2018's "Avengers: Infinity War" to hit the big screen scheduled for April 2019.
However, while most of us will enjoy the action thriller once it hit the theaters, there are also fans who sadly wouldn't be alive to enjoy the enchanting adventure with us.
Approximately a month ago, a 33-year old Marvel fan and Reddit user posted about his wish to get early access to the movie and the reason that beholds the wish will bring you into tears. Reportedly, somewhere during early January, a thread on Reddit titled “Dying Before April: My Endgame” reached the top of the Marvel Studios subreddit.
In the thread, a user named Alexander confessed that he is terminally ill and he may not be alive when the movie hits the theatres in April. Alexander would have never thought that his wish to get an early movie screening will snowball and would turn out to be a campaign that even caught Chris Hemsworth’s attention.
Alexander in his post revealed that he was a very healthy man until 2017 when it came to his senses that he has been diagnosed with devasting mouth cancer. He was 32 years old at the time and was recovering from the loss of his sister who died from leukemia and left behind her 4-year-old daughter. Only a year later, after the first cancer diagnosis, he received the shocking news about cancer is in his liver. Three months later tests revealed that Alexander suffers from a rare genetic disorder called Fanconi Anemia. This disorder is responsible for his cancers and probably his sister’s too. The worst news is – the disorder makes him sensitive to chemotherapy – a treatment that could give him a new life.
The tragic story of a man fighting against the deadly disease did not go overlooked. The Reddit community soon came into action and did everything they could to get Marvel’s attention. Luckily, with the help of kind strangers on the internet, Alexander’s wish was conferred. In addition, some users messaged him saying they know Chris Hemsworth - the actor who plays Thor - and promised to reach him out and arrange a get-together. Finally one fine day, Alexander received an email from Disney. While the arrangements for the screening are still being made, it’s clear that people at Disney are working on making Alexander’s dream come true.
