Mobile Phone or say Smartphone has become an integral part of our life. While this new Technology has made our lives easy, it has also brought with it some serious problems parents are facing globally as far as their Kids are concerned and India is no exception. Today the fact is that the dependency of young children on these gadgets has become so great that some can’t live without it even for a few minutes. This weird addiction has led to kids committing suicide, hurting themselves seriously or assaulting their parents.
Here are 5 tips that can help you keep your children away from both smartphones and their ill effects.
1. Keep your child engaged
With shrinking play spaces, particularly in metros, the children have no options but to remain indoors. That usually results in your children spending their time playing with toys. Some also get hooked to gadgets like smartphones, which also double up as entertainment devices. To prevent this from happening, take your child out to the park or some nearby playground to allow him to spend his/her time running and playing.
2. Talk to your child
The sparkling colours and animations on the smartphone screen attract children easily. If both the parents are working then it is very important to talk to your children and let them know the harmful effects of overuse of smartphones by way of charts or videos available on different platforms including Youtube.
3. Do soul searching
Before blaming your children for phone addiction, do some soul searching. Weren’t you busy on your smartphone talking to your friends or relatives and ignoring your kids sitting next to you? There are a number of parents who spend a lot of time on their smartphones. Usually, kids follow their parent's footsteps. So set an example, be a role model and restrict usage of your phones when you are home with your kids.
4. Bond with your child
Despite living a very busy life, it is important to have family bonding activities with children. Playing board games or engaging your child along with you in activities such as cooking or gardening will keep her away from smartphones. You can also sit with your child and listen to music, read a book to them or involve them in creative activities like painting.
5. Set passwords
It is not always possible for parents to be around their children to stop them from using a smartphone. Set a password on your phone so that your child cannot use it while you are away.
